Normally, the Oscars red carpet is a “safe” environment regarding fashion looks, etc. However, this year proved to be the polar opposite. Between the poufy gowns, bright pastel colors, 70’s rock glam and mirror metallics, this carpet was bold, daring and we are here for it! Here to shed her expertise on how to replicate these hair looks this season, Creative Director Ebony Garris of The Extension Gallery will assist us with choosing the right products to recreate these fierce styles!

Look #1: Sleek and Slick: Ponytails For The Win!

Ponytails are no longer reserved for “bad hair days” or “post gym” look. This hairstyle is super chic, which makes an unapologetic, bold statement. With actress Angela Bassett KILLING IT in her pink gown and professional tennis player Serena Williams showcasing her sexy beaded-bodice gown, a ponytail can be worn multiple ways.

In order to achieve Angela’s look, use the “Luxe Wave” texture from our Regal Collection via the Extension Gallery in 24” length. The steps to achieving this look are:

  • Part the hair in the middle of your crown
  • Apply some hair spray on the top of your hair
  • Pull the hair into a low ponytail (use a comb or brush to gather the hair in a snag-free elastic hair band)
  • Take a little piece of your hair from the ponytail and wrap/secure it to the base of the ponytail
  • Use your comb to tease the hair a bit to add extra volume (if needed)
  • Set the look with your favorite hair spray

In order to achieve Serena’s look, use the “Pin Up Straight” texture from our Vixen Collection via the Extension Gallery in 30” length. The steps to achieving this look are:

  • Pull the hair all the way back (use a comb or brush to gather the hair in a snag-free elastic hair band)
  • Apply some hair spray on the top of your hair
  • Pull the hair into a mid ponytail
  • Take a little piece of your hair from the ponytail and wrap/secure it to the base of the ponytail
  • Set the look with your favorite hair spray

Look #2: The LOB with a twist!

The LOB (translation: long bob) is such a classic, timeless style. Think of it fitting you perfectly like your favorite pair of jeans (yes, girl!) This hairstyle can work on ALL face shapes and hair textures. Actress Regina King looks angelic in her white gown (work it!) and actress Tessa Thompson beams radiance in her black, vintage gown.

In order to achieve Regina’s look, use the “Bodacious Body Wave” from our Vixen Collection via the Extension Gallery in 10” or 12” length. The steps to achieving this look are:

  • Part the hair on either the right or left side, or in the middle of your crown (whichever you prefer)
  • Brush the waves gently to get soft, relaxed waves throughout the hair
  • Set the look with your favorite hair spray

In order to achieve Tessa’s look, use the “Lavish Loose Wave” texture from our Vixen Collection via the Extension Gallery in 10” or 12” length. The steps to achieving this look are:

  • Comb the hair back gently
  • To achieve a more defined wave throughout the hair, use a curling wand and do the following: Take a 1/2 inch – 1-inch piece of hair and hold it in front of the curling wand. Use your free hand to wrap the hair around the wand, away from your face (do not to touch the hot wand!)
  • Take a little piece of your hair from the left side and either twist/braid it, and then secure it to the middle of your crown (secure it with pins.)
  • Set the look with your favorite hair spray

Look #3: Calling All Curls!

Sza looks smokin’ hot in her strapless, sultry dress! She is serving us Princess Warrior vibes with a high-low silhouette, which is totally on trend (and totally fits her style!) In order to achieve Sza’s look, use the “Goddess Curl” from our Regal Collection via the Extension Gallery in 24” length. The steps to achieving this look are:

  • Part the hair in the middle about a ½ inch
  • Split the pieces in half (so it will be two pieces of hair framing your face)
  • Take the rest of your hair and use your fingers to comb through the hair, and then pull it into a high, loose ponytail
  • Wrap the hair around the ponytail loosely
  • Secure the hair with bobby pins in the front, back and sides
  • Set the look with your favorite hair spray
