Aretha Franklin’s documentary titled, Amazing Grace is headed to theaters!

The film, which was made 46 years ago now has a release date. The film was directed by Sydney Pollack but suffered technical issues and legal holdups which blocked its premiere.

Amazing Grace was shot in two nights in January 1972 at the New Temple Missionary Baptist Church in Los Angeles, California. The Queen of Soul passed away this past August.

Producer of the film, Alan Elliott staged a private screening of the documentary for her family and estate. In a statement to Variety, Aretha’s niece and executor, Sabrina Owens said that the film is a, “very moving and inspirational, an opportunity for those individuals who had not experienced her in a gospel context to see how diverse her music is.”

The world premiere of the film will be made next Monday, November 12th at Doc NYC in New York City.
