A Whole New Groove
R&B singer Carl Thomas is coming out with a new album for the New Year.
By Holly Clay

Singer Carl Thomas made some of our favorite love songs from the late 90s, much as "Emotional" and "Summer Rain." Today, he's fresh off of an African tour with Avant and Tank and will soon be releasing his new album "Conquer", which is a full body of work that is sure to satisfy his current fans while collecting new ones. He talked to Sheen about his new sound and what he listens to when he is not singing himself.

Sheen: Is your musical style different today than it was when we were first introduced to you?
Carl Thomas: My style hasn't changed. The music has just gotten bigger and more mature. The sound is broader and more inclusive. It's a mixture of the different things that encourage me. It will give people a refreshing feel.

Sheen: What was it like touring in Africa with Avant and Tank?
CT: The response from my African fans is consistent and faithful. But I am happy to be back and show people that I haven't forgotten about them.

Sheen: Are there any collaborations on your new album:
CT: I have a single on the album with Snoop called "Don't Kiss Me." It is very fitting for Snoop to be a part of the album. I have been trying to do something with him for a while.

Sheen: How do you feel about the music that is out right now?
CT: Music right now is taking more chances. There are fewer boundaries. You don't have to sing or rap, you can do both.

Sheen: What advice do you have for new artist?
CT: Before you try to go out and get people to believe in your work, you have to believe in yourself.

Sheen: What is playing on your iPod right now?
CT: Janelle Monae, Kendrick Lamar, and Strange Fruit.
