A vibrant display of passion and heritage.

Bisa Butler is not new to the textile community, but she’s definitely putting her twist on a timeless tradition. Born in New Jersey and the youngest of four, Bisa initially acquired her sewing skills from watching her mother and grandmother provide clothing for their families. Years later, after obtaining her Bachelors in Fine Arts degree from Howard University, Butler picked up quilting during a graduate level cyber arts class. Utilizing her love for portraits, Bisa designed an over mitt sized quilt, in honor of her grandmother. Blending her love for sewing and fabric with her newfound passion for quilting, her creating became more than just a graded piece of artwork, but a new way to show her love and appreciation for the black community.
