Black Girl Magic was in full effect on the red carpet for the 10 year Anniversary of the empowering organization Black Girls Rock created by Beverly Bond! The night was star-studded with a sea of celebrities flowing down the red carpet and host Tracee Ellis Ross was gorgeous. So of course SHEEN Magazine was on the scene covering this milestone event.

We saw a candid moment between Honoree Gladys Knight, Dionne Warwick, and Cicely Tyson as they walked down the red carpet!

The Honorees are Rihanna (Rock Star Award), Amandla Stenberg (Young, Gifted, and Black Award), Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors, and Opal Tometi of Black Lives Matters (Community Change Agent Award), Gladys Knight (Living Legend Award) , Shonda Rhimes (Shot Caller Award), and Danai Gurira (Star Power Award). The M.A.D. Girls are young girls making great impacts in their communities! The M.A.D. Girls are Marley Dias, Maya Penn, and Haile Thomas!

We got a chance to speak with a few of your favorite celebrities about what they were most looking forward to at the Black Girls Rock Awards this year?

Hosea Chanchez: “Brandy is performing and that is something I am really looking forward to. She has new music out and I’m excited for her.”

Corrine Bailey Rae: “To seeing Lauryn Hill and seeing the young people that are a part of this program being honored for what they do in their communities. I love that link between the community and the Black Girls Rock organization.”

Debra Lee: “We have great honorees this year. I’m very excited about Rihanna, Gladys Knight, and, women from Black Lives Matter being here. It’s a show put together for women by women, which is so empowering.”

Eva Marcille: “I love it! Black Girls Rock is so inspiring and its beautiful to celebrate women like this! I just love it.”

Iyanla Vanzant: “I love being here amongst all of these amazing women. It’s great to see so much support and love for one another here.”

It was indeed an epic night full of celebrity appearances by the likes of Dr. Bobby Jones, AJ Calloway, Cissy Houston, Kelly Rowland, Tatyana Ali, Andra Day, Skai Jackson, Yara Shahidi, Marsha Ambrosius, Bevy Smith, and Imani Uzuri just to name a few that crossed the SHEEN pathway.
