It’s safe to say that it pays to have former First Lady, Michelle Obama write you a letter of recommendation! Just ask Black-ish star Yara Shahidi! The former First Lady was gracious enough to pen a recommendation letter for her college applications and the 17-year-old actress has confirmed that she was indeed accepted into multiple schools.

“I did get all of my college acceptances and I’m keeping them close to the belt as of right now, but I got into every college I applied to,” Shahidi recently stated. “So that’s really exciting. I found all of that out last week. My college plans are all up in the air, but I will choose within the next month.”

Shahidi, who plays “Zoey” on the hit ABC comedy, also explained her plan to pursue a double major in African American studies and sociology. She has not yet decided on a minor but states “as much as I want free time, I love to challenge myself. So it really goes back to the point that I want to study as much as possible and a double major is the solution.”

Aside from college, Yara will be keeping herself busy by hopefully starring in a Black-ish spin-off exploring Zoey’s college journey. In January it was confirmed that the project was “in very early stages.”

“The fact that Zoey is college-aged makes it important to address that, because on a college campus — given the socio-political landscape of our society at the moment — we’re not only dealing with race policy that we got from Black-ish, but also the intersectionality of race, gender, sexuality and political views and ideals. And so [filming on] a college campus and having Zoey experience life as an independent would be a perfect place to discuss that.”

Although Yara may seem to have her plate full, she seems to be handling everything with such grace and we are excited to see where she is headed in the near future! You can catch Black-ish on ABC every Wednesday at 9:30/8:30c!
