Actress Wendy Raquel Robinson and R&B singer Tank hosted this year’s trumpet awards for the 27th anniversary. Powered by Bounce TV Networks and Civil Rights Activist Xerona Clayton. The Trumpet Awards celebrated another year of “black excellence” this past weekend in Atlanta. Recognizing honorees such as; Atlanta’s own TIP T.I. Harris who received “The Xerona Clayton Award” recognizing his community efforts and contributions in the city of Atlanta. Other honorees included Robert Townsend, MCLyte, Robert “Darkchild” Jerkins, and Dapper Dan.

This celebration of black excellence didn’t disappoint with amazing performances and tributes performed by GRAMMY award-winning recording artist Ashanti, GRAMMY® Award-winner India. Arie, rappers Da Brat, Lil’ Mama and YoYo, Keyshia Cole and more.

SHEEN caught up with the honorees and performers on the red carpet to discuss their definition of black excellence and shook things up a bit with insightful conversations about important topics amongst our communities.
