In this exclusive interview with SHEEN, Glow Candle Bar creator and owner, Brianna Clark shares what sets her candles apart from the rest and the inspiration behind creating the candle company you need to get your hands on!

Can you tell our readers a little bit about yourself?

Well, my name is Brianna; I was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia by the greatest woman on earth, my mom. Growing up, we really struggled like most kids who lived in similar areas that were less fortunate than others. My mom, who is my biggest inspiration never allowed me to use my circumstances as a crutch and I’m grateful for it because that made me into the independent, strong woman I am today. In 2012, I moved to Charlotte, North Carolina to attend Johnson C. Smith University where I received my Bachelor degree in Business Management. All my life, I have always been the one behind the scenes, I was comfortable being there because of my observant and introverted ways. While that does have some pros, I never was able to shine a light on some of the goals that I’ve always kept to myself because of that. It was not until 2017 where I really decided to take my goals more seriously and focus on what it was that I felt like I was put on this earth to do, which is to help inspire and encourage young women all around, but especially black women.

What inspired you to create, Glow Candle Bar?

I got the idea to create Glow Candle Bar early October of 2017 after completely hitting rock bottom and dealing with depression for about a year and a half. I needed something that would help me feel like there was a reason why I was on this earth and something that kept me going. Once I got the idea, I did a lot of research on how to make candles, and after the first candle I made, I was in love. I did so much research on how to start a business and what I found was that there were a lot of “how to” books and seminars that would charge an insane amount of money just to tell you something that worked for them, but might not work for you, so there it was, my purpose. I decided that I was going to use me making candles to help give out inspiration and encouragement because I felt like the people who really needed it probably could not afford to spend all this money on a class or seminar (like myself) in the first place. I want to help push people to reach their fullest potential, to challenge them to GLOW up and to hold them accountable for their OWN destiny.

Do you have a favorite candle from your business that you could tell us about?

My favorite candle now is “Melanin Goddess.” This candle is my latest release and starting to become my best seller. Other than the bomb smell, the meaning behind this candle is so important to me, I said from the very beginning that this candle was going to help me to change people’s lives and I truly believe that. My hashtag is #ManifestYourMelaninGoddess and it just means to continue to be your best self! I tell people all the time that “You cannot GLOW if you don’t GROW.” I want young black women to define whatever it is they think being a Melanin Goddess is because it really is your own interpretation. This candle is a conversation starter and having a real story to tell and being able to connect with women (especially black women) who hold so much in for the sake of being “strong,” I want to be the one to close the gap on feeling like if we tell our story we will be looked at as emotional or weak, but in reality it’s showing that we are actually very much so the opposite and that when we come together and #ManifestOurMelaninGoddess our reign will be unstoppable.

What do you believe sets Glow Candle Bar apart from other candle companies?

Other than being a 100% soy wax candle company with non-toxic chemicals, I truly believe that this is not just a candle company. I knew when I first started this business that I wanted to help change people’s lives and help add a bit of glow to it as well. I’m not just trying to sell candles, I want this to be a segway into deeper and meaningful conversations. I want to be able to educate and show other young black entrepreneurs that whatever you think you can do.

Do you mind offering your best advice for entrepreneurs?

My biggest piece of advice would be to not get consumed in the social media world, more than half the time what your seeing is not real. People only want to show the good and charge you a fee to hear about their struggle, just know they did struggle. You’re not the only one who wants to quit, break down, give up, etc. We all go through it and at some point, it will pass, but you have to learn how to stay disciplined even when you’re not motivated (because you will not always be motivated). Lastly, just because it might take you longer to get where you want to be, that does not mean it is not going to happen. Believe in your craft and your dreams because at some point in your journey that’s all you are going to have and you are going to have to be able to take that and keep running with it.

What can we expect to see from you and Glow Candle Bar in the future?

You will be seeing a lot more of me! I am working on branching my business out there more and really trying to get my newest candle ‘Melanin Goddess” to reach all over so that people can really experience it. Being a part of more events and slowly beginning to do speaking engagements are two of my main goals for this year. These candles are an experience and I feel as everyone should experience them! So, over the next year and years to come, I will be building Glow Candle Bar to be a staple to help others build their dreams as well.
