Laurens, South Carolina native Callie Burnside graduated from Spartanburg Methodist College, earning her Associates degree in Criminal Dispatcher. She became the first black dispatcher in Laurens County. This past May, Burnside finished her years as a dispatcher after 40 years and began her business in May Kay. At first, Burnside describes, Initially it was just a way to make extra money, but I discovered very quickly that I enjoyed sales.  I was really good at it as well.” We caught up with Callie Burnside to learn how she utilizes her Mary Kay business and why she is so passionate about empowering others.

Can you share with us information about your business?

Why are you so passionate about empowering women, the youth, and your community?

I am motivated to help others.  Many times Those in the community are struggling because they don’t know better. If I have the opportunity to pass on useful information that I know from experience can be a benefit to someone else then I am eager to pass it on.  When people know better, they do better. 

Do you mind offering your best advice to our readers?

Own your mistakes.  If you make a mistake, it’s okay. Recognize it; don’t make excuses, and move on.  Learn from it but don’t dwell on the past. 

What do you believe is the best lesson you’ve learned along your journey to success?

Walk your own path.  Stay focused and committed to your dreams and goals.  Don’t quit no matter what others do or say to you. Maintain accountability to yourself.  

What do you hope to accomplish in the years to come?

In the years to come I would like to grow my business and enjoy retirement to the fullest.
