As the weather starts to warm up and we break out our shorts and sandals, we have the perfect recipe for a simple soap bar that will leave your skin moisturized and smelling as refreshing as a Caribbean summer. This is a fun and natural DIY that will work great on sensitive skin that is prone to allergic reactions and it takes less than two hours to make, so it makes for a chill rainy April day activity that can be created with just a few items.

1 tablespoon of Citrus Zest

1 tablespoon of Coconut Oil

2-3 drops of Essential Citrus Oil (can be purchased at Garner’s Natural Life, Whole Foods, or Target)

1/3 block of Shea Butter Soap Base (can be purchase at Hobby Lobby, Walmart, or Michaels)

1-2 tablespoons of Shredded Coconut

Plastic Containers or Tupperware

Wax or Parchment Paper

Melt block of butter in the microwave for 30 seconds intervals, until it is all well mixed and melted

Add in oils, shredded coconut, and zest and combine! (save some zest for final step!)

Lay out wax or parchment paper on mold and pour in mixture, sprinkle remaining zest and shredded coconut for decoration

Let the soap harden for an hour and remove from mold and enjoy!

Now that you know how to make your own soap, you can get creative and mix in other ingredients like lavender, coffee, honey, activated charcoal, oatmeal, and essential oils like tea tree oil, frankincense, patchouli, peppermint, eucalyptus and more, to formulate your own unique scent. Hack: if you don’t have a traditional mold or don’t want to put the mixture in your baking equipment, use yogurt cups, milk cartons, or plastic pipes to mold your soap.
