A native of Ghana, West Africa and current resident of Baltimore, Maryland, Cindy Tawiah, the CEO of “Diva by Cindy” offers the knowledge and key ingredients to achieving stronger and overall healthier hair for her consumers, all while changing lives through philanthropy.

Cindy’s interest in the beauty industry began at the age of sixteen, inspired by a chemistry teacher who helped her with the process of creating nail polish and other beauty products. However, due to pressure from her family to gain a career that would be substantially more promising, Cindy earned her degree in Nursing from Manchester University and went on to begin her medical career as a Registered Nurse at Bon Secours Hospital, located in Baltimore, MA. for thirteen years.

After years of being unhappy in the medical industry and passion for beauty continued to thrive, Tawiah decided to take a leap of faith and open her own hair salon. From the beginning, this new venture seemed “meant to be,” literally.

“The code to turn the lights on for the salon was 2,4, 69. That is my birthday,” says Tawiah. “ I just remember feeling this was a sign that I was moving in my purpose.”

After five years of being in business, Cindy realized her hair salon “Shades of U Hair and Beauty” had fulfilled its purpose, leading her to create her own hair products and she happily decided not to renew the lease.

Cindy continued to remain encouraged and quickly realized that creating her own beauty brand was exactly what she needed to do. In 2007, “Diva by Cindy,” a multi-ethnic hair-care line was created. “Diva by Cindy” provides a line of products that improve the hair and scalp, stimulates growth and prevents hair from shedding and breakage.

“We’re not just selling you a product, we want to make you feel good,” says Tawiah.

The product line includes a: crème relaxer, shampoos and conditioners, detangler, hair dress, wrapping lotion, hair polish and more.

In addition, not only does “Diva by Cindy” promote healthier and stronger hair, but it also inspired Tawiah to create “The Diva Project,” a philanthropic platform that helps heal and restore women who are survivors of domestic violence.

“We want to empower and heal women in style. We’re a do good and feel good, and for me, that carries a holistic approach.” Tawiah says

As a survivor of domestic violence, Tawiah finds her own joy in doing beauty makeovers and giving back to women during their healing journey through “The Diva Project.”

Cindy has also collaborated with many organizations that support her cause such as, House of Ruth Shelter, Marian House, Child Protective Services and Sunshine Promises 501c 3, a non-profit organization which proceeds are donated from the purchasing sales of a “Diva by Cindy” product.

On December 5, 2018 “The Diva Project” will be hosting its own ‘Beauty Day’.

“Charity is my purpose,” Tawiah says.

‘Beauty Day’ is an opportunity in which Tawiah and her team dedicate their time in Giving Back! This includes giving beauty makeovers, secret hair tips, and words of encouragement to foster children, the homeless, and victims of domestic violence.

“Diva by Cindy” has been featured on the Tom Joyner Morning Show, Fox 45 and in more! The “Diva by Cindy” brand is available on Walmart, Food Lion, and Tops and Giant Eagle. Comedian and Actress Tiffany Haddish used Diva by Cindy Purr-fect Edges, a smoothing, and molding gel to slick back those curly tresses, while she prepared for her appearance during the 70th Primetime 2018 Emmy Awards.

2018 has definitely been a year of triumph and recognition for the beauty founder. Tawiah has been honored at the Global Women’s Professional and Business Exchange Conference, which was held in her native country Ghana. While visiting Tawiah says, “I went back to a place of pain to get my healing.” And on October 21, 2018, Tawiah was awarded as the Community Champion Awardee at the Purple Runway.

The beauty brand has even made it convenient for consumers traveling domestically or internationally. A Diva by Cindy beauty vending machine was officially launched in Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport on October 17, 2018. (Located in Concourse D). This makes it easier for any lady on the go needing a good shampoo or conditioner.
