The iconic duo prepares to take over the world of music and fashion

While being on set with Ashanti and “Shia” Douglas, one thing is very clear – it’s a family affair. As Ashanti pushes back a flyaway strand of hair, with her perfectly manicured blinged out nails, she looks in the mirror, while her mother Tina – who’s been her “momager” since the beginning of her career – smiles, expressing a seal of approval. Shia looks on and gives her Twiggy-inspired bob a shake, while Michelle Huff-Elliott, the family friend and longtime publicist, beams with pride. It’s showtime.

But the shoot isn’t just for Ashanti – The Princess of R&B, but also a rising star, for Ashanti’s ride or die, her sister, Shia.

While the Grammy award-winning singer and actress, Ashanti was topping the Billboard charts in the early aughts – after being featured by Ja Rule and Fat Joe, in the “Always On Time” and “What’s Luv,” her 2002 debut album propelled her into becoming the first feamle artist to have three singles simultaneously in the top 10 of the Hot 100 chart – Shia was in middle school.
