There’s no secret that today’s Beauty of Giving spotlight is a powerhouse in the music industry. She’s won Grammy Awards, just wrapped up the final season to WE TV “Mary Mary” and now the host of her own syndicated radio morning show.  Former SHEEN cover girl, Erica Campbell is our “Beauty of Giving” spotlight today.  Erica Campbell sat down with SHEEN to share with us her ways of giving.

What is your way of giving back during the holiday season or throughout the year?

Giving back is not just something to be done at holidays; it’s definitely throughout the year. You give of time, you give of money, you give your energy, and you give your love. This particular holiday season, I’m going to go to our homeless area in Downtown LA and disburse t-shirts.I have three children that I sponsor year-round through humanitarian organizations – two children through World Vision International and a child through Compassion International. I’ve sponsored them for years – at least 7 years. Additionally, my church does a giveaway where we go to grocery stores, pay for people’s groceries and pray for them.

What message do you hope to convey through your way of giving?

Giving should be a way of life. God wants us to give. We’re blessed when we give. You can’t receive with a closed hand. When you open your heart to give, you open your heart to receive the love and the gratitude from the people you give to. Then you become the hands and feet of Jesus. Also, its very important to me that I teach my kids to be givers because I want them to understand that we don’t live on this planet by ourselves. I want them to understand that we’re blessed to be a blessing.

Why is it important to use your platform to impact the lives of others in a positive manner?

We weren’t put on this planet to live for ourselves. My life is not my own. My life belongs to God. I’m a vessel for Him to encourage people, to let them know that God loves them and that He cares. It is our job to make a difference in this world. It would be an awfully sad place if we only cared about ourselves.

Why is it important to spread love on a daily basis?

On a daily basis, we are bombarded with what’s wrong and who’s done something and who’s negative and who’s not enough and who’s hurt and who’s broken. I like to use my time and my energy to uplift and to let people know that love is not lost, that kindness still exists, that people still care, that God still loves them, that miracles still happen, that the sun comes up every single morning and that no matter how broken you’ve been God can put those pieces back together. So everyday should be a day trying to be better than I was yesterday. Not better than other people but better than I was yesterday – and helping people to be the best of themselves.
