Internationally Recognized and Award-Winning Surgeon, Dr. Leslie Ray Matthews launched a new campaign to educate the global community of the benefits of daily intake of Vitamin D.  Dr. Matthews has revolutionized the use of “high-dose” vitamin D in the frontline treatment of coronavirus and other diseases of chronic illnesses such as traumatic brain injuries, heart attacks, strokes, concussions, ventilated associated pneumonia, sepsis, ARDS, and infections. A former Mayo Clinic trained fellow and Senior Associate Consultant (SAC), former professor of clinical surgery, and a former director of surgical critical care and trauma surgery, Dr. Matthews is no stranger to saving critical lives with cutting edge vitamin D research.

Can you tell everyone, who is Dr. Matthews?

I am the youngest of 11 children of the late Rev. John Matthews and the late Missouri Matthews. I was born in Indianola, Mississippi. The hometown of B. B. King. I am a recently retired professor of surgery/ trauma/surgical critical care/expert vitamin D3 researcher.

Congratulations on being inducted into the Royal Society of Medicine, how does it feel to have gained such recognition?

Thank you. I am honored and humbled to be inducted into the Royal Society of Medicine. Members include Prince Philip, Prince Charles, Prince William, Sigmund Freud, Charles Darwin, and Ewdin Jenner.

In this trying time, many are despite something to help prevent catching or a way to overcome this deadly virus! What lead you to Vitamin D research in relation to COVID-19?

Vitamin D3 is a steroid hormone that controls 3,000 out of 30,000 human genes including the immune response system (white blood cells) and the inflammatory response system (chronic inflammation). As a trauma surgeon, vitamin D decreases infection, pneumonia, infections, and mortality rates.

Many have been increasing their Vitamin C intake as part of a preventive measure. In your opinion, are there benefits to adding a Vitamin C & D combination for better proactive prevention? Does one provide a better benefit over the other?

Vitamins D and C work well together. Vitamin D is s true hormone, whereas vitamin C is a true vitamin. Hormones are stronger than vitamins.

What if any are alternatives for individuals that have heavy allergies to Vitamin D intake if any?

I have one seen one person who had an allergy to the ingredients in the soft gel. There are liquid, gummies, and spray forms of vitamin D3.

You have worked with the CDC and allowed to speak at the FDA regarding vitamin supplements, can you explain more about how that came about and what do you feel was or will be the outcome from taking that opportunity?

I spoke at the CDC once; however, I never worked with the CDC. I can only give the scientific facts and data. I have traveled all over the world talking about vitamin D3.

What advice would you like to leave everyone, especially during this time?

Get your vitamin D3 blood level checked by your physician once a year.

How can people connect with you to learn more, as well as continue to follow your work?
