Let’s change the narrative together!

Are you tired of the bad news? Want a boost of positivity? Well, new founder, Tierra Smith has you covered. The 27-year-old Milwaukee native recently created ‘Wins For Black Girls’, a text-alert platform that shares good news for Black girls and women around the world.

Smith earned a Bachelor’s degree from Grambling State University and a Master’s from Louisiana State University in Mass Communication. She currently works as a digital content producer for KPRC 2 in Houston.

With her growing communication background she has always wanted to make sure that she makes and leaves a positive impact in the media world.

While going back and forward with the idea to create WFBG, even holding on to the web domain for around a year or more, near the beginning of 2020, she was ready to demand change for Black media and launch her new project.

“I was tired of stereotypes, biases and fake news in the media about Black girls and women,” Smith said. “It’s time someone gets it right and who better to do it, than us?”

With continued misrepresentation in the media, she created WFBG as just the start of a long-term solution.

The WFBG positive alert is delivered right to all of the subscriber’s phones for FREE! To subscribe to receive alerts, text ‘WFBG’ to 1844-414-4959.

The text alerts can range from celebrating wins from Black girls and women in education, entertainment, entrepreneurship, politics, sports or any and everyday successes!

The now Houston resident says WFBG is the sole manifestation of passion and research, but she believes that it will soon become a multimillion dollar platform that amplifies Black women and their businesses.

Unlike most of the noise on your phone, these will be alerts you actually want to see to brighten your day!

“We cover influential people such as Stacey Abrams, Beyoncé and Issa Rae, as well as, women who get the job done every day like your mom, your sister and your best friend,” the founder said.

Wins For Black Girls is one of the latest projects under the Fund Black Founders crowdfunding platform.

Crowdfunding is the practice of funding a project or venture by raising small amounts of money from a large number of people.

Smith created a campaign, shared her ideas and is now trying to jump start and scale her entrepreneurial ventures.

On Smith’s birthday, January 13, she held a Wins For Black Girls crowdfunding launch party.

There is currently a pledged goal of $10,000. In result of Smith’s launch party $1,425 was raised. You can still help WFBG succeed by donating today. The project campaign ends May 6, 2020.

‘We are crowdfunding to grow our business, increase our brand awareness and expand our technological capabilities so we can create more positive Black Girl news,’ Smith said.

This news alert platform is so important now more than ever because Black girls and women are winning big more and more everyday. They are breaking new barriers in business and so much more. The momentum is not slowing down.

Also, research studies show that consistent positive media portrayals lead to higher self-esteem, gratitude, and generosity.

Wins For Black Girls has identified an opportunity to fill the gap of providing positive news through the perspective of Black women. While often marginalized, the depiction of Black women shapes how Black women see themselves and how the world views Black women.

In February, Wins For Black Girls won second place in Melvina’s Mastermind All-Star Business Pitch Competition in Chicago.

“As a rising entrepreneur this was a great opportunity for me,” Smith said. “I really value and appreciate the wisdom and insight everyone involved during the pitch competition gave.”

Still finding ways to make a difference with positivity, during the current pandemic, while millions around the world are quarantined, Wins For Black Girls hosted a ‘Virtual Black Girl Showcase’. The showcase featured talented African-American singers, rappers DJs, poets and many other creatives.

In addition to that showcase with future ones to be held, Smith has also incorporated #WeWinWednesday into her platform. This is a weekly feature on the WFBG social media pages that highlights women who win in several ways everyday!

”This is only the beginning of what Wins For Black Girls will accomplish,” Smith said confidently.

Along with Smith and Fund Black Founders, she has a team of family and friends who support her dreams including, Jasmine Kendrick, the digital strategist for WFBG.

Smith explained that their overall goal with their positive news alerts are to inspire and uplift.

“We want to remind all people of the power and endurance of Black women,” she said.

She and her team aspire to give millions of young Black girls and women nationally the extra boost to keep striving for their goals and the encouragement and motivation to never give up!
