Lil Wayne will forever be one of the greatest rappers to ever bless hip-hop. On Friday, September 23rd, Lil Tunechi and his Young Money crew performed at Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills, California. Formerly known as the Fox Wilshire Theater, the intimate 2000-seat venue boasts an Art Deco structure that originally opened in 1930 — serving as the perfect space for the 5-time GRAMMY® Award-winning, multi-Platinum rap icon that we know and love as Lil Wayne.

The night began with performances from the Young Money signees Allan Cubas, Hoodybaby, Mellow Rackz, Kay Kay and Gudda Gudda – all of whom had great performances and crowd engagement. After a short intermission, The Young Money founder hit the stage with little to no warning and the crowd erupted. Over 60,000 tracks are uploaded to Spotify everyday and this overload of music makes it hard to appreciate the songs that made us fall in love with music to begin with. Watching a Lil Wayne set is a reminder of what it means to make music that impacts culture.

From start to finish his performance feels like a greatest hits album. The most impressive part is that the majority of what he performed were songs from Tha Carter III and forward. Wayne performed records like “Lollipop”, “A Millie”, “No Worries”, “Mrs. Officer”, “Love Me”, “Pop That”, “Every Girl”, and countless other monumental records. Additionally he brought out YG to celebrate his 40th birthday with him.

Lil Wayne, while approaching 40 years of age, is still in the conversation for the most iconic and charismatic talent that hip hop has to offer.
