Valentine’s Day is one of our favorite holidays of the year—what gal doesn’t enjoy receiving chocolate and flowers, after all? And when it comes to this special day, your lips take center stage. Whether you’ve got dry lips, thin lips, or just want to show off a pretty color on your pout, you can get a beautiful-looking pucker in time for Valentine’s Day. Follow these three tips that will help soften your lips, make them look bigger, and provide gorgeous color. Kiss, kiss!

1. SHOW YOUR CUPID’S BOW SOME ATTENTION

What better part of your face to highlight on Valentine’s Day than your cupid’s bow? It’s just so perfect! (FYI: Your cupid’s bow is the curve at the top edge of your upper lip.)

Step 1: Pick the lip pencil shade of your choice. A bold or neutral shade will work—it’s all up to you!

Step 2: Make an X on your top lip. Starting at the highest point of your natural lip and draw a straight line extending down. Do this on the other side, too, to finish your X.

Step 3: Define your bottom lip by drawing a line across the center of it.

Step 4: Make two V’s. Part your lips slightly and draw a sideways V to connect your top and bottom lips in both corners of your mouth.

Step 5: Connect the lines. Use your pencil to draw short strokes to connect the lines.

Step 6: Fill in your lips. Apply some lipstick or lip gloss on top.

2. FAKE A FULLER-LOOKING POUT WITH LIP LINER

A pillowy-looking pout is in your reach: All you need is lip liner and translucent setting powder to get the job done.

Step 1: Use a natural or light brown lip liner to line your lips. Heavily line the curve of your bottom lip, making sure you’re lining just slightly outside of your lip’s natural shape.

Step 2: Line the sides of your bottom lip, this time staying within your lip’s natural shape.

Step 3: Line your top lip, sticking to your natural shape on the sides and extending the liner slightly outside your lip’s borders when you get to your cupid’s bow.

Step 4: Color in the inner borders of the top and bottom lips. This’ll give you a slight ombré effect that is so on trend!

Step 5: Fill your lips in with a natural, matte lipstick, making sure to blend the color well with your lip liner.

3. MAKE YOUR LIPSTICK LAST
