When it comes to makeup, we’re more than confident that makeup artist, Latrice Johnson knows a thing or two about what she’s doing. As the makeup artist for Academy Award-winning actress and director, Regina King, her looks and talents with each brush stroke is something we’re certain will leave people captivated for years on! We recently sat down with Johnson to discuss everything from how she maneuvered in the midst of a pandemic, her go-to makeup products, and much more!

How did you first get into beauty?

I started working at the MAC counter and while I was in school for beauty and make up, my school sent me on different assignments. On one of these assignments, I met actress Tangi Miller, who I have worked with on many of her projects. From there, the ball started rolling and has not stopped.

What would you say is your favorite memory so far as a makeup artist?

My favorite memory as a makeup artist are actually two events I worked on.  It’s a tie! I absolutely loved the experience of working on Regina King’s makeup for Saturday Night Live, and also in 2019 the 91st Academy Awards.  Those were a few of my favorite makeup looks. The whole experience from the start of the day until the end of the night was magical. I will forever be grateful.

What are must-have products in your collection?

My must have products are Kohgendo skincare like the T3 Premium Oil, Aqua Foundation, and Ardell Double Wispies Lashes.

How has it been navigating in the industry during an ongoing pandemic?

When the pandemic first started, I didn’t know how this was going to work. It gave me a chance to figure where I was going and what I needed to do next. I was truly optimistic. One thing this business has taught me is where there’s will there is a way. Hollywood figured out how to do everything virtually. It became creative and innovative with virtual red carpets, award shows, and it was inspiring to see everyone come together in so many inspiring ways to make the award shows and television appearances successful.

What are you working on and what can we expect to see from you in 2021?

Because of the pandemic, I was inspired. I decided to work on something that was always on my mind and now have had the courage to try. That is party and event planning. I had the privilege of planning Sherri Shepherd Birthday Brunch as well as her son Jeffrey’s 16th birthday party. I actually loved every minute of it. I know there is definitely more to come. Of course, my first love is makeup and I have some makeup projects coming up that I can’t wait to share at this time. 2021 has amazing opportunities in store.
