I’m not sure who came up with the idea that you can’t mix business with pleasure, but the Media Girls On Tour event proved that to be far from the truth!

The Media Girls On Tour event is an effort created by “Blogging Beauties Network”. Media Girls On Tour is a “sister circle” experience for women in media to be able to connect and learn from some of the best of the best in the journalism, blogging, entertainment, PR and television. The first leg kicked off this weekend in Charlotte and it was amazing being in the midst of #MediaGirlMagic!

From the moment you hit the door, the energy from the vendors and design team was electric. The venue space was transformed by the illustrious design team of Cora Lee Luxe Events and businesses like Classic Closet Boutique, GLOW Candle Bar and more, who were represented in the Vendor Marketplace.

The event began with a little mix and mingle action. Upon arrival, attendees chopped it up, while shopping vendors and enjoying delicious bites provided by Danielle of Simply Homemade Catering. Signature cocktails were prepared by celebrity bartender, Mary Harvin of UDrinkIMake and sounds by DJ JMitchell.

Once guests made their way to the Pink carpet for press photos and cutesy Instagram boomerangs, the atmosphere was set for a day of girl talk and empowerment. This tour stop featured a panel with some of the most brilliant female media talent in the industry today.

The panel featured: Alexandria Washington (@allythepub), radio personality at 92.7 The Block;  Ashley Holder (@ashnoelletv), WCCB Charlotte Sports Anchor; Alexandria Wurst (@ayeeedubb), radio personality at Streetz 103.3 Charlotte; Candice Nicole (@candicenicolepr) Award Winning Publicist of CNPR Public Relations; Britney Hamilton an meteorologist at FOX 46 Charlotte, Mercedes Jackson (@mjthatmediagirl), media correspondent at The Jasmine Brand; and Nikki Davis (@yagirlnikki), Radio personality at Power 98FM.

Moderated by Ardre Orie of 13th and Joan Publishing, the panelists candidly shared their experiences on sexisim in the industry, how they overcame adversity in the workplace, what they did to build a presence on and offline and how they manage to stay successful while finding balance in life. They even talked about how they had to overcome their own insecurities to find their own voice in the industry and how comparison of others is wack and your focus should always be on blazing your own trails to greatness. Every piece of advice given was great, but the piece that stuck out to me is that success is not quick and it only comes when you put in the time and the work for it. Though that’s something I’ve always known, it just does something different when you hear it from someone who’s in the same circle as you.

To say that the MGOT event was great would be an understatement. This event was better than great, it was necessary, not only in our industry, but in our community. It’s no secret that women, BLACK women, are not portrayed in the best light in media so it’s always a bonus when we’re gathered in a space where empowerment and encouragement is our focus” says event attendee Tierany Griffin.

The next leg of the tour is set for May 19th in Detroit, Michigan and will continue to travel throughout the year, making stops in Atlanta, Chicago, New York, Dallas and Los Angeles. Bloggers, publicists, journalists, and correspondents are welcomed to attend. A special thank you to the additional tour partners Aquahydrate, Sheen Magazine, Nouveau Riche Consulting and Knotable Designs. Be sure to check back for updates and information about upcoming tour dates and special guests.

To have my “big sisters in media” pour into my spirit and sow seeds of love into my harvest was something I’ll never forget and if you know like I do, you’ll make it your business to be in the building when the tour stops at a city near you! Thank you SHEEN for providing the guests with copies of the magazine and swag bags! Detroit is up next on May 19th, 2018.
