Creative mastermind, Shonda Rhimes has definitely found her niche and done wonderful things with it. As the creator of shows such as Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice, Scandal and How to Get Away with Murder, she has created her own, “Shondaland” on ABC for everyone to be apart of. So it may come as a shock to many that Ms. Rhimes has found a new home, that home being Netflix, where she has just signed a multi-year deal. This deal comes at a pivotal time for Netflix, after the announcement Disney programing will be removed as they are creating their own streaming service.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Rhimes was earning an estimated $10 million per year at ABC Studios but reportedly will be receiving a lucrative amount from Netflix for this exclusive deal. Shows such as Grey’s Anatomy and How to Get Away with Murder will still be aired on ABC, so TGIT will continue! Rhimes shared her thoughts on the deal stating:

“Shondaland’s move to Netflix is the result of a shared plan Ted Sarandos and I built based on my vision for myself as a storyteller and for the evolution of my company. Ted provides a clear, fearless space for creators at Netflix. He understood what I was looking for — the opportunity to build a vibrant new storytelling home for writers with the unique creative freedom and instantaneous global reach provided by Netflix’s singular sense of innovation. The future of Shondaland at Netflix has limitless possibilities.”
