It’s been years in the making but the Oscars organization is finally diversiyfing their voting board.
Across social media, people have declared #OscarsSoWhite for years.
Well it looks like voices have been heard because The Academy has just announcde that they have invited several new members that include a diverse cast in the entertainment industry.
This includes the acting and costume design aspect of the annual ceremony. John David Washington, Niecy Nash, Eva Longoria, Zendaya, Zazie Beetz, Cynthia Erivo, Brian Tyree Henry are a few actors included in this new class of celebrity invitees. There are 819 total!
People obtained a statement from the Academy President David Rubin saying, “The Academy is delighted to welcome these distinguished fellow travelers in the motion picture arts and sciences. We have always embraced extraordinary talent that reflects the rich variety of our global film community, and never more so than now.”
The 2021 Oscars was originally supposed to air in February per usual but has been rescheduled to April 25th, 2021 due to our current pandemic.
