Just yesterday, Lil Nas X made history when his hit single, “Old Town Road” featuring Billy Ray Cyrus broke the Billboard record set by Mariah Carey’s “One Sweet Day” featuring Boyz II Men.
The single has spent 17 consecutive weeks at the top of the Hot 100 chart. Carey’s collab single with Boyz II Men set the record in 1996 when they spent 16 weeks at the top.
The only song since then that has come close to the record was Luis Fonsi’s “Despacito” featuring Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber when they tied at the 16-week record back in 2017.
Carey took it to Twitter to congratulate the rapper on his success thus far.
Sending love & congrats to @LilNasX on breaking one of the longest running records in music history! We've been blessed to hold this record with a song that means a great deal to @BoyzIIMen and myself and has touched so many. Keep living your best life! ❤ pic.twitter.com/3YorLCg3lx
