The world can be a scary place. Everyone knows this, flooded as we are with stories of pain and more pain. Often, we can find ourselves so focused on pain, the pain we see in this world, we lose sight of the good being carried out. But don’t be fooled. There is good. In fact, Thistle Farms, located in Nashville, perfectly exemplifies the good. The mission of the natural body and home products company, “. . . is to heal, empower, and employ women survivors of trafficking, prostitution, and addiction . . . by providing safe and supportive housing, the opportunity for economic independence, and a strong community of advocates and partners.”

The way Thistle Farms does is this by providing the survivor with, “. . . housing, medical care, therapy, education, and job training free of charge.” With this in mind The Hope Candle, sitting just in front of me, was made by the very hands of those Thistle Farms is providing for. And what a candle it is, hand poured, made with soy wax and natural fragrances. It comes in a black jar, practical, as burn marks will remain hidden. Written in white, almost like chalk on a chalkboard, is Thistle Farms’ mission statement: Love Heals Every Body. Everything about the candle is simple and likewise beautiful. Our very own Bentley Didier described the candle’s scent as, “. . . a soft citrus, something affectionate, makes me think of words like relaxed, home, and clean,” and I agree completely. For here at my desk—amidst the chatter, the office noise—I do feel relaxed with the lit wick of The Hope Candle flickering next to me, the subtle lovely scent floating through the air.

The Hope Candle from Thistle Farms certainly has my approval. Buy one for a loved one or for yourself, and always remember that yes, there is good in the world.
