We are now on day three of the Self-Care @ Home series with Sheen magazine and today we talk skincare and make-up, yes, MAKE-UP! Some of you may be wondering why we would cover makeup at a time like this. I mean, we are shut down and we can’t go anywhere so, who are we putting makeup on for? Well, you do it for yourself! When this is all over, we still have to get back to our daily routines so we think it’s important for you to maintain a sense of normalcy right now.

Also, if you are feeling in a funk because of everything that’s happening, what better way to give yourself a little boost than to give yourself a little beat at home, right?

So, if we’re going to talk make-up and skincare, who are we gonna’ call? Well, Lady Kay, of course! Her portfolio speaks for itself and her name rings bells so, really no introduction is needed. She has been the go to for all things makeup and skin for quite some time now.

Based in Columbia, South Carolina, Kristy Quattlebaum is our expert advisor for day three and here is what she shared with us to help our readers stay on top of their skincare game during the COVID-19 quarantine.

How has this shutdown impacted your business in the beauty industry?

The COVID-19 shutdown has tremendously impacted my business… negatively and positively. I love servicing clients in my studio each week, and not being able to do that has been quite difficult. I have had several brides who have had to push their wedding dates back, and doing makeup for weddings is one of my favorite parts of being a makeup artist. On a more positive note, the shutdown has caused me to think outside of the box, to brainstorm about enhancing my brand and business, it has truly been a season of rest, yet productivity. At the beginning of the pandemic, I held my very first virtual class, which was amazing. This was the start of something beautiful.

What are your top three tips to our readers for maintaining healthy skin during this time?

Beautiful skin = flawless makeup! It’s not smart to keep covering up break-outs and blemishes with makeup, instead, we should make skincare our top priority. Number one, drink A LOT of water. Hydrated skin is healthy skin, and because we are what we drink (and eat), drinking water is essential. Number two, cleanse, cleanse, cleanse! Cleansing the skin will clear the pores and prevent build-up, which helps eliminate break-outs. Lastly, moisturize your skin! Even if your skin is oily, you need a moisturizer, but one is that is more light-weight so it doesn’t block your pores.

What is a great daily “quarantine routine” for skincare and makeup?

During the quarantine, it’s so important to maintain self-care. Get up in the morning, take care of your hygiene, put on a little makeup and an outfit, and you’ll feel amazing! The old adage says, “When you look good, you feel good!” That is 100% correct. First, cleanse, tone, and moisturize your skin. And for a little added spunk, start with a skin primer, your foundation of choice, mascara, eyeliner, lipstick or lipgloss, a little bronzer to “Glow Up,” and don’t forget to fill in those brows, so they’ll be “on FLEEK!” Take a cute selfie, post it on social media, and use the hashtag #QuarantineCutie!

How do you think your business in the beauty world will be impacted after Covid19?

Sanitation has always been number one for my business, but I do know that clients will probably pay closer attention to my sanitation practices after this is over, which they should, to ensure their safety. I am excited about getting back into the studio, but my main goal is to ensure that my clients feel safe at all times.

What words of inspiration do you have for our readers during this time?

The key to success is to focus on how big your God is, not how big and impossible your dream may seem! In each and every aspect of life, trusting God will take you further than trusting your business manager, accountant, or mentor.
