Shae Nycole, a native of Lake Charles Louisianna, started her singing and acting journey at a young age. She loved singing gospel, and her talent was embraced in church as well as when she performed in stage plays. She shares that she used to play the clarinet in high school and occasionally plays the piano.
She credits her choir director Gladys McKnight for encouraging her to pursue singing to a higher level. Singing greats such as CeCe Winans, Betty Wright, Nicole Mullen, Whitney Houston and Mariah Cary had a big influence on her singing journey as well.
Shae attended school for music and started signing professionally around the age of 21. Her first project was “Undefined” an EP (Extended Play) music recording who she credits producers Alvin Garret and Roger Ryan for.
She recalls the first time she performed in front of an audience she felt her heart pounding out of her chest. Even now she shares she still gets nervous before going on stage. She finds that praying and asking God to take any negative energy away and to fill her up so she can pour back into her audience.
Shae shares that her favorite songs are her own collections, Do Right, produced by Grammy Award winner Shannon Sanders, and another favorite is Lessons and Blessings. The songs express her personal life and are both inspiring to her. Do Right was #1 on the Apple music Blues chart for 8 weeks and it went viral on social media. Her songs have inspired so many fans.
The R&B songstress shares that creating lyrics to her songs could take some time. It varies by the record. She stresses it’s important to her that she puts out quality work. She listens to the track for perfection before it’s released.
Shae has had many achievements during her career, such as receiving the rising star for AMG southern soul awards and being presented “The Key To The City,” in her hometown of Lake Charles. Besides her singing career Shae is a licensed real estate agent.
Shae literally wears many hats. She enjoys wearing her cowboy hats on stage while performing. She shares that it depends on what outfit she’s wearing and pictures herself on stage then selects the hat that best goes with the outfit.
The songstress shares that losing her father was very hard. She needed an outlet, hence “Shae’s Kloset” her on-line boutique was created. One day she was cleaning her closet out and started posting pieces inspired by her on Instagram and received good feedback about the items. She decided to start her hat collection which is displayed in her boutique.
Although Shae relocated to Nashville, she is warmly received when she visits Lake Charles. She shares her hometown is very supportive and they love her. She also loves to cook and eat Louisiane food! She cooks shrimp and grits, crawfish and gumbo. She also shares that she can make a mean seafood broil.
Although she has a demanding schedule, Shae shares being a mother is something she really loves and enjoys spending time with her kids. She also shares she has a desire to get back into acting and would like to have her own real estate reality show.
The songstress also shares that her recent hit song “Handyman” was inspired by her father who was a construction worker. She says he was a “jack of all trades” always fixing something. Shae recalls how she and her father laughed and clowned around labeling him a “manly man” and how her mother teased calling him a pipefitter.
Advice Shae gives to aspiring singers is to be true to yourself. Tell your story. It’s a lot of work to put in and it will happen when it’s meant to be. Trust in God’s timing.
