Justice Stephen Breyer announced his retirement earlier this week, revealing there would be a vacancy coming up, and the White House has confirmed the president is considering several potential replacements.

Judge J. Michelle Childs of South Carolina is one of the candidates on Biden’s list. Biden nominated her to the U.S. Court of Appeals in Washington, DC, only a few weeks ago.

As reported by the Washington Post, Childs is the first nominee to be publicly confirmed and has been on the U.S. District Court for South Carolina for over a decade. Although the process is still in its early stages, the spokesperson clarified that Childs is still one of many possible names being considered.

Biden is still on track to nominate the first black woman to the Supreme Court as part of his campaign pledge.
