ShaLaJa’ Swimwear came to life in 2011 after founder Shaquoya Jackson decided to stop searching for the ‘sexy, flirty yet sophisticated’ swimwear she desired and create it herself. Fueled by a lifelong passion for the art-and-craft of high fashion, Shaquoya set out to design a line of cutting edge swimwear that would appeal to style savvy women around the globe of all shapes and sizes.

Where are your originally from?

Columbus, Georgia

Why swimwear? Why not clothing, shoes, accessories etc

I started designing out of the blue. I prayed about it and really loved it. It was all in my life plan.

What’s your biggest accomplishment with your swimwear line?

Miami fashion week exposure, LA facet; I found a celebrity boutique on Melrose Avenue and a lot of celebrity stylists pull my pieces. My pieces have been seen on VH1’s “Love & Hip Hop Atlanta”, Lola Blanc, and more!

What can we expect from you next?

I want to start a plus size line and a mens line. I’m also going to design lounge wear, kids swimwear, beach wear, and exotic wear.

Who are your shoppers? Where do you get the most business from?

My business targets college students normally 18 and up. The prices range from $84- $135 in price.

 What sets your swimwear apart?

I don’t compete with other brands nor do I care what others are doing. I simply design what I love.

Shalaja’s newest campaign is “#RealityCanWait,” escaping to relaxation, freedom, and comfortability. Targeting the everyday woman
