Ah, the heat of summer is upon us and so are the powerful rays of spontaneity, adventure, and excitement. Summer is the perfect time for outdoor activities, vacations, and some much-needed relaxation from the hustle and bustle of a rigorous and monotonous schedule. Warmer weather also brings more opportunity to meet someone while you’re enjoying the carefree mood so often associated with summertime. People from all walks of life travel to destinations all over the world, and sometimes, they meet someone worthy of a summer fling – but what if they want more?

No strings attached

Let’s talk a little bit more about what a fling actually is. A fling is a type of flirtatious/romantic relationship which is temporary, involves no commitment, and may or may not involve sex. Even though flings can happen spontaneously, the people involved should still discuss their expectations. Dr. Candace Cooper -Lovett, a marriage and family therapist, explains, “Having clear cut boundaries allows each of you to know where you are, as well as your expectations so both of you are on the same page, regarding what you want out of the situation as well as what you don’t want.” No one wants added stress in their life, so being open and honest with someone you’re dealing with temporarily is the best way to save you both from unnecessary complications.
