Singer-songwriter, actress, and multi-instrumentalist, Elexis Ansley unleashes captivating music! Raised in Maryland, Elexis discovered her talent for singing at the age of three and later found inspiration in the music of vocalists like Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, and Christina Aguilera. As she evolved as a singer and instrumentalist, she simultaneously found her niche as a songwriter, studying the repertoire of artists like Marvin Gaye, Etta James, and contemporary artists like Amy Winehouse and Adele.

Elexis Ansley recently released her latest single “Way Up” in November along with her Billboard-charting Producer, Eha Rouge. The single is now available on iTunes, Amazon Music, and all digital marketplaces.

In a recent interview on Starrdom100 Radio, the talented singer opened up about the importance of self-love and shared some insight on her latest music project.

You have a new single out and a new video. Can you tell me about it?

Yeah, actually I came out with two songs and two videos this year. So I have one that’s called, “One Life” and that one’s a house record. And then I have another one called “Way Up” and that one just came out last month.

What’s the inspiration behind “Way Up,” what inspired you to write this song?

Well, ‘Way Up” is really about being in a relationship and not getting what you’re giving. And you know, people play mind games, people are not sure if they really want to be in love with you. But at the end of the day, you just have to focus on yourself. And you have to build your empire and be happy with that. And, you know, if that’s the right thing…that will come later and it will come at the right time.

What other new music projects are you working on?

Well, I have another single coming out, probably in March called “Light Shower.” I just filmed the video last month. So I’m really excited about that one. That one’s my favorite of all the songs that I’ve written. So it’s basically about if women or men come at you a certain way, or they’re jealous, then you just have to love them, anyway. It’s a really inspirational song as well. I try and make all my songs encouraging and positive because it’s really important in this day and age.

What would you say this journey has taught you about yourself as an artist?

I guess the biggest thing is knowing you have to be true to yourself. You can’t listen to this person or that person. You have to always know what it is you want. You know, that’s the biggest thing. What do you want? What’s your legacy going to be? What do you want to tell the people? And as long as you can focus on that, and do what’s true to you, then you should be successful.”

I also lost over 100 pounds, nine years ago. So that’s been a big part of my life as well. And just encouraging women that they can be anything that they want to be.

Elexis’s music is so inspiring and she delivers a very down to earth, soulful sound that listeners can relate to on a personal level. I truly enjoyed hearing her life story and I’m looking forward to more music from her in the upcoming year!
