This year was the year of diversity! Black, positive and successful are words that describe each person on our list while also winning the hearts of America (and the world.) See which celebrities had the best year!

Taraji P. Henson

Taraji reigned as the sassy “Cookie Lyon” on Empire and she continues to grab and hold our attention with her infectious personality. We are proud of Taraji and can’t wait to see what’s in store for her next year.

Drake has consistently dropped hit after hit after hit. Nowadays you can’t go anywhere without hearing a Drake single or get on social media without seeing funny Drake memes.

Shonda Rhimes

Shonda continues to crank out highly anticipated shows through her Shondaland production company, which only means one thing, more diversity! The successful writer and producer even released a book this year titled Year of Yes, which has been called witty and inspirational.

Viola Davis

Speaking of inspirational, Viola became an inspiration to black women everywhere when she was casted the lead role in How to Get Away with Murder and ultimately became the first black woman to win an Emmy in the Best Actress in a Drama category.

Uzo Aduba

The Orange is the New Black star is the epitome of poise and grace whenever she takes center stage on the red carpet and other appearances. We’ve witnessed how easily and elegantly she can transition from “Crazy Eyes” on OITNB to “Glinda the Good Witch of the South” on The Wiz Live! and did we mention, she can sing Opera? There’s absolutely nothing she can’t do.

The Curry’s

In a world where it seems like anything goes, it is refreshing to see Stephen and Ayesha Curry stay true to their beliefs. From their absolutely adorable children to their various “bae goals” moments, this loving couple never shies away from promoting positivity and family.

Ava DuVernay

The director and film maker was thrusted into the spotlight after her movie Selma shook up Hollywood. Selma welcomed enormous success after being nominated for countless awards and Ava herself even had a doll made in her image.
