At just 11-years-old, Charlotte Nebres has made history!
We just learned that New York City Ballet’s annual production of George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker will have their very first black lead this year!
Charlotte is currently a student at the School of American Ballet and was hand-picked so star as Marie in the production, the girl who dreams of a nutcracker coming to life!
People shared that Charlotte grew up watching Misty Copeland, who hands down is one of our favorite ballerinas of all-time. Copeland made history herself when she became the first African American principal at American Ballet Theater.
This year’s cast for The Nutcracker is super diverse and we’re all here for it! It includes Sophia Thomopoulos, who is half-Korean and half-Greek (will portray the other Marie), Kai Misra-Stone, who is half-South Asian (will portray Sophia’s prince), and Tanner Quirk, who is half-Chinese (will portray Marie’s prince).
Congratulations on making history Charlotte Nebres!
