Actress Rachel Kylian, a Bordeaux native, was living in New-York when she landed the part of a French nurse in Sony Pictures’ The Climb. The role is her first French role on a film.
The Climb is about a tumultuous but enduring relationship between two men across many years of laughter, heartbreak and rage. It is also the story of real-life best friends who turn their profound connection into a rich, humane and frequently uproarious film about the boundaries (or lack thereof) in all close friendships. The buddy comedy was recently picked up by Sony Pictures Classics.
The film has been awarded the “Un Certain Regard” prize Jury’s Coup de Coeur at the 2019 Film Festival Cannes. Michael Angelo Covino stars alongside his co-writer and co-producer Kyle Marvin. It’s adapted from their Sundance short inspired by their real-life friendship. Gayle Rankin, Talia Balsam, George Wendt, and Judith Godrèche also star in the film.
Kylian went on to join the cast of Interpreters and appear in films like Almost Christmas, The Wrong Man and on TV shows including High Maintenance, Counterpart, and MacGyver. She has been cast as a co-star in “High Maintenance,” Season 3.
Created by Katja Blichfeld and Ben Sinclair, High Maintenance follows the adventures of The Guy (Ben Sinclair), a nameless, bike-riding pot deliveryman whose client base includes an eccentric group of characters with neuroses as diverse as the city. The series offers a glimpse into the daily routines of these New Yorkers — and the varying ways of and reasons for using marijuana. High Maintenance is currently airing its third season on HBO!
The French-American actress can currently be seen on CBS All Access’ FBI where she co-stars alongside Zeeko Zaki and Billy Burke.
What character did you play? Were there any challenges in taking on this role?
I play a French nurse. Yes, we did night shoots, so staying awake was a challenge. The other challenge was the shooting style, one long take for each scene, with multiple cast members, it felt like a play.
When does the film hit theaters?
The film was recently picked up by Sony Pictures Classics. So I expect a release in the near future.
What did you enjoy most about being part of this film?
This role is my first French role in film. The script is funny so it was a joy to be part of this project. The cast and crew were lovely as well. The film has been awarded the “Un Certain Regard” prize Jury’s Coup de Coeur at the 2019 Film Festival Cannes. The Climb is also my first film at Cannes.
What new projects are you currently involved in?
I can currently be seen on CBS All Access’ FBI where I co-star alongside Zeeko Zaki and Billy Burke. I will appear in the sci-fi film Interpreters.
