Was there anything that Della Reese didn’t do? She sang her heart out and charmed the world with her wisdom on Touched by An Angel. Veteran actress, Della Reese has passed away at the age of 86 in her California home on Sunday, November 19th.
She was born as Delloreese Patricia Early on July 6th, 1931 in Detroit, Michigan. At just six-years-old, she established her roots in gospel music and soon became a vocal powerhouse.
Reese reached national fame in 1957 when she released “And That Reminds Me,” which became her first global seller.
In the late 1960s, she also became the first black woman to co-host The Tonight Show with Jimmy Carson.
To add on to the multiple hats that Reese wore, she became an ordained minister in the 1980s that led her to found her own church, Understanding Principles for Better Living.
Reese’s most famous role was when she portrayed Tess on the CBS hit series, Touched by an Angel, which began in 1994. With much success, the show ran until 2003. Her sarcasm and attitude quickly caught the hearts of America and she became one of the most beloved characters on the show.
Reese endured health problems in her life, including diabetes. The award-winning actress and singer is survived by her husband, Franklin Lett, whom she married in 1983.
