On Sunday, September 1st Atlanta’s Piedmont Park will host the 8th Pure Heat Community Festival or “day of unity.” This free event will include market and food vendors, live performances, entertainment, educational forums, and giveaways – designed to bring together communities in the spirit of pride and vision.
A portion of the event’s proceeds from the weekend will benefit The Vision Community Foundation – a foundation supporting homeless LGBT youth and those impacted by HIV/AIDS. The honorees include Angelica Ross of POSE and award-winning artist, Tweet – hosting the event will be done by Bishop Oliver Clyde Allen III, Rashad Burgess, Avian Watson, Melissa “DJ” Scott, and Julius “JuJu” James.
Angelica will receive the 2019 Trailblazer Award as a businesswoman, actress, and transgender rights advocate. As the founder and CEO of TransTech Social Enterprises, Ross created a firm to help employ transgender people in the tech industry. In acting she began with a web series called Her Story, which was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Short Film for Comedy or Drama. Now, Ross stars as Candy Ferocity in the critically acclaimed POSE, and will appear in American Horror Story 1984.
Tweet also known as the “Southern Hummingbird” will be honored with the 2019 Legacy Award. Best known “Oops (Oh My)”, described as a song about self-loving and appreciation which was produced by Timbaland and featured vocal by Missy Elliot. Since then, Tweet has released three solo albums – most recently a self titled Charlene.
This event is one you definitely don’t want to miss! With live performances by Taylor Girlz, Paula Campbell, Aaron Thomas, Damez, Victor Jackson, Brany, Kelly Price, Ray J, Monica, Tiny, and more. Along with an annual hair battle, j-sette competition, gospel choir, fashion show, and house-music DJ.
