The Queen of Dark educates us all on the first of step beauty, self-love.
Meet Nyakim Gatwech, better known as The Queen of Dark. In an age where many are fascinated by skin brightening creams, this South Sudanese model is embracing her rich complexion, while becoming an inspiration to women all over the world. Her confidence is refreshing and motivates everyone to love the skin they’re in. Growing up, she thought she wasn’t beautiful because of the comments people would make about her skin tone. Today, she’s a beauty icon that is admired for loving the truest version of herself. Her bold, passionate personality is a true reflection of who she is and inspires to be. Nyakim has made it a goal to share her story to start a movement to encourage to women that loving themselves is the first step in empowerment.
How do you achieve glowing skin within your daily routine?
I don’t do much but I use this soap called African Black Soap, I use it to shower with. I also use Shea butter and coconut oil daily. That’s all I use. I like natural, organic products the most.
What is one beauty item you cannot live without?
Wow, that’s a tough question. I would say lipstick. I love natural lipstick or gloss. If I had to only have one thing on, it would be lipstick.
What is your definition of beauty?
My definition of beauty is being comfortable in who you are. Beauty is being who you are, loving yourself, and being comfortable and accepting with yourself. If you see yourself as beautiful, everyone else will see that through you. I feel like, if you have some insecurities, it’s okay, but if those insecurities are covered by your confidence or how you feel about yourself, those insecurities won’t be as visible by other people. There were people who didn’t accept who I really am. People said I was ugly because I am too dark, that didn’t make me feel beautiful enough. It wasn’t until I started growing self-confidence when I really started to feel beautiful.
