Daniel Smith is one of the best film producers known on an international scale. His name is synonymous with creativity and expertise. On November 1-3, Los Angeles is going to be an even busier city, because it’s hosting the inaugural Japan Cuts Hollywood Film Festival at the famous, TCL Chinese Theatre. The world-renowned producer will be celebrated and honored during this star-studded three-day event.
Smith produced a documentary called, “Defending Japan” that has been chosen as an official selection at the upcoming film festival. “Defending Japan” is produced by Aurora Borealis Entertainment for A+E Networks and the History Channel Japan. Daniel Smith and Gudni Gudnason, are the programs Executive Producers. The series tells the story of the role the U.S. military plays in supporting the Japanese military in the tense Pacific Rim. Smith is very excited about the event and explains, “It is always a great honor to be recognized for work you’ve done. Producing the documentary series “Defending Japan” for A+E Networks and the History Channel has been a challenge because of the scale. But it has been rewarding too. I’ve won broadcast and print awards before, but this is a first, in that this award originated in Hollywood. That name means a lot in our business and it will mean a lot for our brand at Aurora Borealis Entertainment.”
As a well-respected writer, producer and director, Smith is certainly doing what he loves and does it very well. With over twenty years of residency in Tokyo, Japan. He has produced TV programs for FOX, NBC Universal, A+E, History Channel, National Geographic Channel, FOX Sports and MTV. Those programs included more than 300 episodes of the weekly FOX Backstage Pass entertainment program; a Mariah Carey VIP special for E! and a Michael Jackson special for FOX. It doesn’t stop there, Smith has also done special programs on Rihanna, Will Smith, Taraji P. Henson, Beyoncé, Bruno Mars, Tom Cruise, the cast of Empire and more. Seen as an expert in his field, Smith has been on multiple talk shows, including a special guest appearance on the popular, “Tonight Show.”
The three-day festival will bring forth large crowds of people who love film and entertainment. Japan Cuts Hollywood is designed to strengthen the two-way bridge between the Japanese and American Entertainment industries through screenings of spectacular feature films, cutting-edge documentaries, vibrant short films, business panels and most importantly, face-to-face networking, where the real connections are made. Smith has a long and vast history and he has made many powerful and lasting friendships along the way. He explains, “What’s also so special about this honor, is that I’m getting it in front of a lot of friends, family and many of associates I worked with over the years. People that I look up to will be there to help me celebrate.”
“I had the pleasure of working hand in hand with Smith while living in Japan. We did numerous interviews and shows together when he gave me an “About Town” hostess position on his Black Life in Japan and Champagne Chef TV programs. He’s amazingly talented and is full of wisdom.”
