As Brandy closes out the summer with the cast of Chicago at the Ambassador Theatre, the singer is no stranger to the musical. Brandy returns to the musical for the fourth time, characterizing the lead of Roxie Hart. The role of the a murderous housewife who is a prime suspect, set in the 1920s. With rave reviews for her characterization of the role, we too see why she can’t stay away for too long!
During this end of summer run, it is the first time two African Americans play the co-leads role of Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly. Velma Kelly is characterized by Lana Gordon, who is no stranger to the Broadway theatre. Both performers have performed this role previously, but with a white counterpart as a co-lead. After 21 years, audiences have the opportunity to witness two African American leads in these two illustrious roles!
