You may recognize Camille Hyde as the Pink Dino Charge Ranger in the Power Rangers Dino Charge TV show back in 2016. Hyde has put the Pink Ranger suit to rest and stepped into her new role as Gabi in a new Netflix Original Series American Vandal. The show consists of 8 half hour true crime satire that explores the aftermath of a kid at school who vandalized 27 faculty cars with the word “dick”.
I had a chance to chat it up with Hyde about her new role and what we can look forward to on American Vandal.
Who is Gabi?
Gabi is a really cool, down to earth girl. She’s the girl of the trio. The only one with a driver’s license so she drives everywhere. She has to deal with a bit of a love triangle that’s going on with her best friend and her current boyfriend (who isn’t the greatest guy). So yeah there’s a lot of drama and comedy.
What is special about Gabi?
Her loyalty. She’s a super loyal girl. She’s willing to do anything for her friends. She takes hits here and there, even when she doesn’t need to just so she can be there for her friends.
Do you relate to Gabi in real life?
Yeah, I do. A really big thing Gabi and I have in common is that we’re both very reliant on having friends around. She is one those kinds of people who like having her close friends around. She really needs support from people around her. I’m the same way. She’s very openhearted and down to earth. Those are like-qualities I share with her.
Where do you see Gabi in future seasons?
I think Gabi ends the season with unresolved business with her personal life that I think can be addressed later on. Also where everyone goes after we find out who the vandal is and figuring out the intentions behind it and how everything settles after it. There’s a lot of cliffhangers at the end of the 8 episodes that can be explored in future seasons.
Are you working on any other projects that we should be on the lookout for?
Yes! Mr. Student Body President on GO90.com, it comes out this fall. It’s based in a high school and has a political theme. Think House of Cards meets Gossip Girl meets Mean Girls. It’s very over the top comedy and drama. My character, Debra, is extremely dramatic; She’s the Queen B of the school and does everything to maintain power. It was so much fun to play her because she literally has no regard for anyone other than herself and she will say and do anything to have her way. She has no filter and playing someone like that gives you so much freedom.
