Actor/Rapper Lil’ Zane (Zane R. Copeland Jr) was named after his dad and grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. He has been writing and rhyming since he was age ten. Zane got his big break on 112’s “Anywhere” song and from there, his music career continued to soar. I had the pleasure of reaching out to him recently and when asked about his reflection on what it meant to be a father, he shared:

“To me, being a father means being a role model. It means being an example and making decisions in my life that will positively affect the lives of my children. Being a father means being responsible and accountable. Most of all it means always being there for my children and giving them the guidance they need to navigate through this sometimes heartless and cold world. Last but not least, being a father means that no matter what your job or career is in life, you are a father first!”

Lil Zane manages to maintain an important role in his children’s lives all while still performing at shows and producing music. It’s not an easy task in the entertainment industry but great dads know how to make everything work when it comes to their kids. Happy Father’s Day Lil Zane!

R&B singer, record producer, and songwriter, ‘RL’ (Robert Lavelle Huggar) is best known for being apart of the popular R&B group “Next.” I had the pleasure of reaching out to him recently and when asked about his reflection on what it meant to be a father, he shared:

“For me what it means to be a father (again at 40) is a renewed sense of humility. At my age ,you tend to become set in your ways. But when Rory came along everything changed. The guy that depended on managers and assistants, now is the security guard, chauffeur, assistant, chef, maid, nurse, and whatever else she needs me to be… and I do each job with pride and honor.”

“When my son was born I was so young & afraid. I was so immature and lost. I can remember like it was yesterday being terrified of not knowing what to do or how. All I knew was I was going to work as hard as I could to provide and be a great example for him. His being born is at the core of everything I’ve ever accomplished as a man and even though he now has a baby sister he’ll always be my baby boy.”

“My advice to fathers: There is no manual. All kids are different and all situations are different. Be patient and love your way through any and all obstacles.”

-RL

RL is such an amazing father to his children and it’s reflected very visibly through his social media. Very wise words expressed to young fathers and even those who are starting fresh again at Fatherhood. No matter your age or profession, you are forever learning a thing or two about what it takes to be the best father ever to your children. Happy Father’s Day RL!

I hope you enjoyed both segments from a few celebrity fathers in the entertainment industry and I’m wishing every father from every walk of life a very special Father’s Day. Remember to always make time for those little ones because they think the world of you, as a matter of fact, you are their world!

Special Thanks to Jason Weaver, Lil Zane & RL for their kind reflections on fatherhood!
