Ryan Christopher is no longer the student of fashion but the teacher hailing from Alabama. This fashionista took over the fashion scene by styling some of TV’s most talked about entertainers and reality personalities. Ryan describes his first major job with Lisa Raye Mccoy as an amazing experience and a career defining moment. Since his introduction to the industry and celebrity styling, he has built a clientele with Dr. Heavenly (Married to Medicine), Erica Dixon (Love & Hip Hop Atlanta), Ebony Steele (Media/TV Personality), Kenya Moore (Real Housewives of Atlanta), and Actress Robin Givens.
Not only has he managed to build a solid clientele and roster but he has launched his own styling app “The Ryan Christopher App,” and is currently focused on his new collection and job as he was recently added to the design team for super group “Day 26.” We caught up with Ryan Christopher to discuss the growth of his career and many of his new endeavors.
After years as working as a celebrity stylist, what finally gave you the idea to open up your own online boutique?
Well I haven’t opened my own online boutique, it’s a collaboration with a well known boutique in my hometown of Birmingham, Alabama. Where I have a collection inside of clothing picked out by myself that’s carried in the boutique. I decided to do it not only because I’m a fan of the boutique and have used them for styling more than a few times but it’s also a way for all women to feel like they have been “Ryanized” in some way.
What type of attire are you planning on carrying in your boutique?
The Ryan Christopher Collection for Ishi Boutiques Which is available now is basically clothing that represents my styling esthetic. Classy, chic, and sexy. My favorite piece from the collection is a floral two-piece set; florals were huge for the 2018 runway shows, entitled “flora-mazing.” This piece is available exclusively in store only!
How would you classify your styling “staple” or style ? Name your top three favorite looks of all time.
I would definitely classify my style as said previously as classy, chic, and sexy! I do add edge and a little trend here and there. My top three favorite looks of all time would be:
– Audrey Hepburn’s “Breakfast At Tiffany’s” Little Black Dress.
– ALL the fashion on Dynasty; well ALL the fashion of Diane Carroll and Joan Collins Characters.
– Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad at 2015 Golden Globes
How did you teaming up with DAY 26 occur? What is your duty or role on the design team?
It started from receiving a call about styling them. Now what you don’t know is that I literally had about four hours to pull their looks together; didn’t even have enough time to talk with them about their likes and dislikes I basically looked at a few pictures and pulled it together within that time frame and it went from there. My role with them is being their stylist.
Could you tell us about the “Glow Up Project”?
The “Glow Up Project” was basically a campaign I came up with to just build some momentum behind my brand. I literally called women whom I have worked with or just have known and said “Hey, let’s shoot!” I was humbled that these group of women all joined in without hesitation! It included 10 women all from entertainment industry which I feel, speaks volumes of who I am as a stylist. The line-up: Gocha Hawkins, Mimi Faust, Karlie Redd, Dr. Contessa Metcalfe, Sarah Lowe, Erica Dixon, Nikki Nicole, Dr. Heavenly Kimes, Genise Shelton, and Gwen Boyd Moss! This is also a project I would like to do with a group of guys!
Who was your first major client that you believed opened up more doors for your career?
My first major client was LisaRaye McCoy whom I still have a relationship with to this very day.
Who is your ideal client?
My ideal client is Charlize Theron! I LIVE for everything this woman represents.
What are your New Year goals for 2018?
My new goals for 2018 is to keep pushing myself beyond my limits and to continue build “Ryan Christopher” the brand and the person.
