Chevrolet and the National Newspaper Publishers Association selected six students from HBCU’s for the 2019 Discover the Unexpected Journalism Fellowship. The students will travel the country for an 8-week internship, discovering inspirational and positive stories within the African American communities. Chevrolet will award each DTU fellow a $10,000 scholarship and $5,000 stipend. The students will be riding in style with Chevrolet during their reporting assignments.

The DTU Fellowship takes place June 5- August 1st. The students will work with the Atlanta Voice, Chicago Crusader, Houston Forward Times, and The Washington Informer. The journey began last week in Atlanta, GA for the students.

Chevrolet invited SHEEN out to a special dinner with Fonzworth Bentley and DJ Envy as they discussed with the students, journalists, and media invited about their excitement for the program. Chevrolet provided an exquisite appetizer and 3-course meal to us and all of the attendees. It’s amazing when major brands give back to our students and African American communities.

Thank you, Chevrolet and congratulations to those exceptional students. Their stories will be featured on the NNPA website throughout the summer.
