You’re a jack of all trades, could you tell us a little about yourself?
I consider myself a well-rounded person, I have advised in ministry for the past 20 to 25 years. I’m an accountant by trade and I’ve been in that profession since I was about 22. I’ve been sewing and been involved with fashion since I was about 14 years-old. I love to travel, I’ve traveled to different islands and also Africa. I’m an author and educator as well so I have done quite a lot in my life and I’m excited about who I’ve developed to be as a person in life.
Can you discuss your desire to encourage women empowerment?
I really desire women to see women in their place, as to what their vision or dream is. One of my passions is to see what’s on the inside and how it can come alive. We all have visions and dreams and a lot of times as women, we get lost in doing things for everyone else and forget about our uniqueness or who we are on the inside. One of the things I love to do is hold monthly empowerment calls and sessions with women to find out what their dreams are that they haven’t brought to life. I have a movement, Goal Digger and we go through a process of quantifying their visions into goals until they can see manifestation. So, whether it’s something personal or business related, I like to see that light within that woman that says, “I know who I am and I’m comfortable in my skin.”
If you could tell women around the world one thing, what would you let them know?
I would let them know that their influence touches lives. It’s a chain reaction. One you touch the heart of a woman and she comes alive, everyone that she comes in contact with is going to be impacted or affected by that. I was actually in Africa about five years ago and I had this vision. I was getting ready to speak to a group of 2,000 people and I saw women around the world in a slumped over position. There was a voice that spoke to me that said, “I want you to speak life to these women.” As I began to speak, I saw these women’s’ posture change. They started running and I saw them with a baton in their hand. They would pass it off to other women. This caused a chain reaction where they would began to leap. You saw life in their lives of their families, companies, and everything they were doing because the inside of them was brought to life. So, if I could say anything to any woman around the world, it is to find from within what brings you life. From that, it impacts everyone and everything around you.
Could you discuss the fashion aspect of your life? What inspired you to design your own apparel?
Since I was a child, I always wanted to be different. I sincerely feel that our personality and who we are is exhibited in the way we express ourselves. Over the years, I get ideas of what I want to look like. My mom is a seamstress so I learned to sew from her. Fashion has allowed me to express myself in a way that is unique to me but still makes a trademark. Fashion sparks or tells others about my personality so that is what drives my passion for fashion.
“I find it very intriguing that no matter where we are in the world, there is always one thing that I find is key to every woman. That is a song that she sings within herself. That song she sings tells the world who she is. No matter where they are in life and if they believe in themselves, there is nothing that won’t allow them to accomplish in life. I have seen it change lives.”
