We’re just two weeks into breast cancer awareness month and its clear that there has been a great amount of support from bothl local communities and celebrities in honor of the cause.
Former Pittsburgh Steelers running back, DeAngelo Williams is playing a huge part in bringing awareness to breast cancer through his nonprofit organization, The DeAngelo Williams Foundation. Just recently, Williams covered the cost of 500 mammogram screenings!
The free mammogram screenings are part of the “53 Strong for Sandra” program through the foundation. At each event held, the foundation will sponsor 53 mammograms. There have been screenings held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Jonesboro, Arkansas, Charlotte, North Carolina, and Memphis, Tenneesee. The foundation hopes to host an event in each state.
Back in 2014, Williams’ mother Sandra Hill passed away from breast cancer at the age of 53. Today has reported that the football star has lost four aunts to breast cancer.
Williams took it to Twitter to share that his efforts were in honor of his mother.
