One of the most challenging parts of performing as a supporting vocalist for contemporary popular artists like Nicki Minaj, Kanye West, Robin Thicke and Melanie Fiona, is the fear of being boxed in.
But for the multifaceted artist, Berry Boo better known as ImBerryDamnit, who has toured with many A-list celebs, this is not the case as she has proven to create a lane for her own music career without the backing of a record label and has just released a new single “Gunz N’ Black Roses” with a video on her sophomore EP “Clutch,” which will be available on all digital platforms.
Singing for legendary hip hop icons such as MC Lyte at Sony Hall in NYC, she has graced stages already performing her newly released single on big platforms such as FOX5 DC, CBS Great Day DC, and many more show dates that are forthcoming. Berry’s talent as a background vocalist has added to the success of Kanye West’s most successful projects, with credit on “On Site” (Grammy-nominated album “Yeezus”) and “Fade” & “Wolves” (Grammy-nominated album “The Life of Pablo”).
Recently coming off tour in Italy with JT Taylor from Kool and the Gang, the songstress has infused an eclectic array of sounds from producers with her versatile artistry in her highly anticipated solo project, with dope visuals for her singles which are available via YouTube.
The Brooklyn native is no stranger to the game and has a myriad of supporting vocal credits for Demi Lovato, Ciara, Ceelo, One Republic, K. Michelle and many more big names in the music industry. Berry has created a unique style of singing and rapping that has taken her from the background to the forefront as she has been featured on BET as a BET Music Matters artist. Other tours and TV performances include: Alicia Key’s “The Element Of Freedom” tour; “The Truth” tour for Ledesi; “The Bridge” tour with Melanie Fiona; SNL, The Today Show, Good Day New York, Jimmy Fallon, and Ellen Degeneres. Her music is phenomenal!
During a recent interview on Starrdom100 Radio she spoke about her new hot single “Gunz N’ Black Roses” and her journey thus far in the music industry.
What was the inspiration behind your single “Gunz N’ Black Roses”?
I feel like a lot of times we always hear from the male perspective and this is basically showing how intense love can be. I wanted to change the narrative because we’re always talking about how a guy has a woman sprung. So this single is basically saying…Are you sure you want to date me because dating me is like playing with fire…my love is not regular…my love is like Gunz N’ Black Roses.
You’ve had the opportunity to tour with so many greats…what has that experience taught you the most about yourself as an artist?
To stay true to myself and never to conform because they may not get it immediately but eventually they will and honestly at the end of the day those who are supposed to get it…will. I’ve also learned to keep going and stay true to my music. I like to sing about things I can actually feel or what I have been through or even witnessed someone else go through. Its taught me to be honest because people can read through that and gimmicks never last.
