Music Producer, DJ, songwriter, actor, you name it, BL$$D pretty much does it all. In just a few minutes of speaking with the talented music sensation, the SHEEN team got the opportunity to get to know the mastermind behind music hits such as, Rolex by Ayo & Teo as well as one of the top R&B/Hip-Hop albums, Super Slimey by Future & Young Thug.
What was your goal?
I remember when I was a kid, I was 11 years old and there was a Brittney Spears song playing on the radio, “I’m a Slave.” I was wondering who makes the music that people record to. Who puts it together? “I remember saying, I want to be a producer.” I didn’t have any experience playing instruments; I didn’t have a musical bone in my body. I never really gave much thought to it until I was 12. I was on a Carnival cruise ship playing basketball and I was playing against a kid named Cody. He told me he made beats. He told me about a program called Fruity Loops. As soon as I got home, I downloaded it and had no idea what I was doing. I tried to put it together and it was just ultra wack so I just decided I was going to keep on being a 12 year-old. Couple months later, I had a dream where God just basically taught me how to put things together within the program. I was so excited to wake up the next morning and jump on my computer. I tried what I saw in the dream and it worked. Everything I was making was still garbage, but it was baby steps. It was a sense of progression and moving forward. I just knew it was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Moving forward, God has been guiding me throughout every step of the way. It was like I was hearing voices in my head, when I followed it, incredible things happened.
Where do you say you get your inspiration?
It’s definitely a sign from God. I’m really big on meditation, I meditate every day. It’s like something just clicks. I feel so blessed and lucky because these big records just fall in from the sky. I feel lucky to be able to catch them. The key to making your dreams manifest into reality is total belief in that dream and being able to say regardless of what’s going around me, this is what I’m going to make go on in my life. A lot of time people let life take control of them but you’re in the driver seat… Once I found that inner peace, all these incredible things happened quicker than ever.
What is something most people don’t know about you?
I only listen to EDM and Japanese Pop. I don’t listen to rap. I might be seen as a rap producer, but I don’t listen to rap really.
Do you mind sharing a moment in your career that you will remember for the rest of your life?
I would say one of the greatest moments I’ve ever experienced was in April when I was hanging out with a few of my friends. We were vibing and I decided to make a toast. I wanted to test something in my mind. I had everyone raise a shot glass of water and I said, “In two hours, I will receive one of the greatest news I’ve ever received in my life.” I looked at my clock and it was 7:30pm when I said that. We were just hanging out and at 9:30pm, my phone rang from a number in New York. I picked up and Young Thug’s manager told me that Young Thug had just recorded a smash to one of my beats featuring Future on it. That pretty much did it for me.
How do you remain humble through all of your success?
It’s not me, it’s God. He is the one making the hits and making everything fall into place. If I were to take credit for that, it’s plagiarism. What He gives to you, He can take away in a blink of an eye. I say, until I make a billion people a billion dollars, I haven’t made it.
