Eight singles from the big city lights of Charlotte, North Carolina have just made the commitment to say “I do” to a total stranger! Look, you know SHEEN Magazine is no stranger to the Married at First Sight franchise and we are thrilled for a chance to get to know this new couple! Just last weekend, the ninth season premiered on Lifetime and we instantly fell in love with, Gregory Okotie and Deonna McNeill! Join in as we get to know a little more about this new couple as they embark on an exciting new journey.
Tell us a little bit about yourselves.
Deonna: I’m a Christian woman with a caring heart and a bubbly personality. I describe myself as an optimist who likes to find the bright side of all situations. I live life to the fullest, knowing that it’s a blessing. I’m a proud dog mom that enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling and trying adventurous things.
Greg: I would say that I am an easy-going person who is passionate about learning and helping others. An extroverted-introvert who is goal oriented and with a great sense of humor. I value my relationships with God, family, and friends. Love to cook, travel, and try new things. Currently, I own a math learning center so I can help students understand a subject that has always come easy to me. I love what I do and am thankful for the risks I’ve taken so far in life.
Can you share with our readers why you all made the big decision to get ‘Married at First Sight’?
Deonna: I got married at first sight to find my best friend, partner, and companion. I was looking for someone that I could share my life with. I felt like the extensive matchmaking process along with the experts’ knowledge and experience was a great opportunity for me to find my perfect match.
Greg: I wanted to take a leap of faith, getting outside of my comfort zone to find my life partner. Someone who is genuine and shares the same mindset about marriage.
What word would you each use to describe this overall experience?
Gregory, you were previously engaged before this, how were you able to find the confidence and courage for this experience?
My confidence came from knowing my worth and wanting to take a risk, better yet, a leap of faith on love. This leap of faith overcame all my fears of love, failure, getting married, and being vulnerable again.
Deonna, you hadn’t dated for 10 years before this! What made you decide that this was what you wanted?
Overall, I spent the last 10 years focusing on me: learning about myself, setting goals, and traveling. All of it was fun and interesting but I realized that I wanted to do all these things with someone. Since I’ve been single for so long, I knew that I needed to ask for help and I figured why not get that assistance and guidance by going through Married at First Sight. Although people may think that I went from one extreme to another, I put my faith and trust in the process and went for it.
What can viewers expect to see from tuning in to Married at First Sight in Charlotte?
Deonna: Viewers can expect to see two single people take a leap of faith and take on something a little crazy. You’ll see us stretch and grow into better people through real, honest conversations. We’re just normal people learning about one another while being documented every step of the way.
Greg: Viewers can expect genuine people giving their all in order to establish a foundation for a promising marriage. Individuals working on being honest with themselves in order, to be honest and vulnerable to their partner. All while being documented haha.
Be sure to tune into the ninth season of Married at First Sight Charlotte on Wednesdays at 8:30 PM/9:30c
