Let me tell you something, I used to spend an outrageous amount of time on my makeup and throughout the day I would be livid when I looked in the mirror and saw that my hard work was fading or just didn’t a greasy mess.

I hope I’m making sense here but the point of the story is, is that prepping the skin for a makeup look is one of the most important steps you can take.

Something that I was introduced to not too long ago was primer. It claimed to blur the appearance of pores, smooth out those fine lines on the face and controls the oil from seeping through and come to find out, it did all that, plus some!

Check out my favorite drugstore primers that have become my tried and true and save me a ton of money while keeping my makeup in one place.

L’Oreal Paris Infallible Matte-Lock Pro Primer, $12.99

I just recently discovered this product at my local drugstore and noticed it had two options. The Glow-Lock and the Matte-Lock. I have combination-oily skin so naturally, I snagged the matte formula as soon as I saw it. The formula is super lightweight and controls all the oils on my face. I’ve applied a little of this primer even on days I didn’t wear makeup and it gave my skin a healthy looking sheen while not letting those oils get to the face.

Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser, $6.99

This next primer needs no introduction. Its the OG in the drugstore primer game. It was my first primer ever and the first time that I used it, for a split second I forgot I had pores. It is indeed a pore eraser and it keeps the makeup on the face throughout the long days.

wet n wild Photofocus Matte Face Prime, $4.99

wet n wild

A few months ago, I wrote and raved about how much I loved the wet n wild Photofocus Face Primer (you can read it here) but when I discovered the photofocus primer, I realized I had found its match-made in heaven. The primer does everything it claims to do, being a true jack of all trades. No shine on the face, it minimizes the appearance of pores and creates a radiant base for your makeup look.

NYX Professional Makeup Angel Veil Oil-Free Skin Perfecting Primer, $16

I watched many of my favorite beauty gurus talk about how much they loved this more affordable dupe of a primer and quite frankly, I’ve never tried a product from NYX that I didn’t like so I knew that I had to get my hands on this product. Now, when I went to Ulta to pick it up, I’ll be honest with you, I put it back down. $16 for a drugstore product is kind of on the pricey side but my heart said get it, girl! So I took a risk and I’m so glad I did!

Rimmel London Stay Matte Primer, $5.03

When I tell you your makeup isn’t going anywhere with this product, I am not lying! Anytime I use this product, I know that my makeup isn’t going anywhere for at least eight hours. Now granted, I wouldn’t suggest for anyone to wear makeup longer than 12 hours but I’ve had some long days that dragged into the night and this was the secret!
