Seven-year-old, Jazelle Johnson of Montgomery, Alabama has helped shine the light on the beauty of autism.
Autism is a pervasive neuro-developmental condition, which affects a person’s ability to communicate and interact with others. People with autism may have a difficult time understanding ‘typical’ social cues and behaviors and may face challenges engaging with those around them – either with words or non-verbal behaviors. Autism affects 1 in every 68 people in the United States and is one of the fastest growing neurological conditions in the world. However, Jazelle Johnson has proven that just because the world has labeled you incapable does not mean you cannot become who you desire to be!
Kids with autism are often considered to be difficult to work with and can be removed from the standard classroom setting. Justine, Jazelle’s mother, shares their story.
