Early on, actress/singer, Maria Howell knew she was destined to be a star. She explains, “my spirit just knew.” She became exactly that through the hard work and grind in order to get to where she is is today as a successful star. We caught up with the performer to discuss her exciting Hallmark project and to find out what we can expect to see from her in the future.
Tell us about yourself. What made you want to get into the entertainment world?
Well…I knew at the age of 6, that I was going to be a singer and actor. I’m really not sure, other than “the talk” in the mirror, and my spirit just knew. Even with all of the side roads I’ve traveled, singing was always a constant. As destiny would have it, here I am. Don’t really remember a specific catalyst.
Tell us about your role in Hallmark’s A Christmas Love Story.
This Hallmark “Hall of Fame” movie was an amazing experience. It stars Kristin Chenoweth and Scott Wolf. I play, “Carol”, Greg Scanton’s Executive Assistant (played by Scott Wolf). No spoiler alert, but it was such a fun role to play.
Can you give us insight into your exciting project with Noel Friedline?
You mean my exciting projects…plural! (laughs) Noel Freidline is an amazing pianist, arranger, and vocalist…to name a few! We’ve got a brand new Christmas recording, releasing November 1st, on CD, vinyl, and of course downloads/streams, etc. We’ve release 2 singles this past summer/fall. www.noelandmaria.hearnow.com Our Christmas recording is titled, “Merry Christmas, My Dear”…simply beautiful. We’ve also collaborated on a short film about Alzheimers titled, “Bewildered”. www.bewilderedfilm.com
You’ve shared the stage with big names such as Nancy Wilson and Ray Charles, to name a few. What was the experience like for you?
When I think of this “small town girl,” being blessed to have her “little girl dreams” come to pass, I’m just in awe of God’s goodness! All of the experiences were amazing! To be up close and personal with people you admire, and respect their artistry, and they take time out to talk with you and share wisdom…that’s huge to me. It’s a game changer. I learned from these experiences, to strive for excellence, then pass it on to the next generation.
What can we expect to see from you in the future?
People can expect more of the same, performing live, recording music, voiceovers, filming movies, TV…but added to that, much more coaching, consulting, and speaking. I want to leave a legacy of faith and love.
