“I just can’t stop crying.”

That’s exactly what Mary J. Blige had to say after the nominations for the 2018 Oscars were announced Tuesday morning.

The nine-time Grammy award winning artist has just earned her first Oscar nomination!

Blige is up for a best-supporting-actress for her role in Mudbound. The Netflix film tells a story of life after World War II in the Deep South.

Mary explains that she was asleep when the nominations were announced.

Blige stated,

“My phone rang at about 5:30 a.m. and it was my publicist, Amanda (Silverman), and she was screaming. And I don’t know what it is so I’m screaming and I’m crying! It’s just a really emotional time. We’re not taking this lightly, because things like this don’t happen. And it did.”

If you thought she would stop there, you were clearly mistaken.

Mary J. Blige also earned her second nomination for best original song, “Mighty River.”

She’s making history and taking names while doing it as she has become the first person to EVER be nominated for a performance and original song in the SAME year, for the SAME film.
